Welcome to Wichita H.O.P.! Thanks for checking us out. We want to invite you to visit our 10:00 am service. We are a new church, led by Pastor Josh Engle. We are passionate about people and seeing our neighborhood loved on in Jesus' name. We are a Bible-believing, disciple-making, prayer-focused community.
Our vision is to be a place of prayer where people find Jesus and become equipped for mission.
Mission: We exist to help God’s people recognize their identity and gifts, and to empower them to be people of prayer.
We believe in one sovereign God, eternally existing in Three Persons: the everlasting Father; His One and Only Son, Jesus Christ our Lord; and the Holy Spirit, our Counselor; and we believe God created the heavens and the earth out of nothing but His spoken word, and for His own glory.
Here is our complete Statement of Faith:
I. THE HOLY TRINITY: We believe in one God, everlasting, who is Spirit; of infinite power, wisdom and goodness. We believe God is the maker and preserver of all things. We believe in the Godhead, of three distinct persons: God the Father, Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are one in substance, power, and eternity (Matthew 3:16-17, Mark 1:9-11, Luke 3:21-22).
II. THE WORD OF GOD: We believe in the Holy Scriptures, (the canonical books; (both the Old and New Testament). The Bible contains all things which are necessary for salvation; nothing is to be taken away or added to them. The Old and New Testaments are not contrary to one another, they are the telling of the same true story from beginning to end. We believe that all the Bible is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness. We believe that the principles which are to be found in the Scriptures are appropriate and practical for daily living and should be found, studied, and be the guidelines for daily living (2 Timothy 3:16).
III. JESUS CHRIST: We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten son, born of the Virgin Mary; that He lived in this world bodily, that He suffered and was in every way tested, even as we are; that He was crucified, dead and buried; that He rose again bodily on the third day; that He ascended to heaven; that He is seated by the Father; that He will return again to receive His bride (the church); and that He ever lives to make intercession for the saints (Hebrews 2:9-10, Revelation 1:5-6).
IV. ORIGINAL SIN: We believe that every person is born with a sin nature and that outside of salvation, through the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross, there is no hope of eternal life (Romans 5:12).
V. MAN’S FREE WILL: We believe that every person has a free will to choose to be saved or choose to reject Jesus Christ (Mark 8:34, Romans 6:23, 13:2, 1 Corinthians 10:13, Galatians 5:13, 2 Peter 2:39).
VI. ETERNAL SECURITY FOR THE BELIEVER: We believe that every person who chooses to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are saved and Satan can never snatch them from Him. However, even as a person can choose to accept Christ or reject Him, so can they choose to reject the love of Christ and walk away from Him following salvation (Matthew 13:1-23, Hebrew 6:4-6).
VII. THE NEW BIRTH: We believe that every person, who has reached the age of accountability, and, having an inborn sin nature, is lost, due to their rejection of Jesus Christ and the will of God upon their life, and that they are doomed to eternal life in Hell apart from God, unless they repent of their sins, and ask Christ to forgive them through the blood-bought provision of the cross, invite Jesus to become their Savior and Lord, and are baptized through immersion. We believe that unless a man is born again, he is lost in his sins and cannot see the Kingdom of God. We believe in the finished work of Christ on the cross and that salvation is only through His blood and not through works (John 3:3).
VIII. THE SACRAMENTS: We believe in two sacraments; namely the sacrament of Holy Baptism and the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper or Holy Communion. The Lord’s Supper should not be taken by one who doesn’t consider themselves a follower of Jesus, nor by one who is not in a right relationship with Jesus when they partake (1 Corinthians 11:17-34). We believe that baptism is for the born-again believer and should not be administered to anyone who has not accepted Christ as their Savior. We believe that baptism is a command of every believer, but it does not save anyone, it is an act of obedience. We believe in infant dedication but not infant baptism (Matthew 26:26-30, Mark 14:22-26, Luke 22: 19-20, Matthew 28:19-20).
IX. THE CIVIL DUTY AS CHRISTIANS: We believe that it is the duty of all who are Christians to observe and obey the laws and commands of the governing authority of the land and to pray for those in authority over them (Romans 13:1-7).
X. THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT: We believe that the Holy Spirit is active in the world today and equips believers with spiritual gifts, at the time of their salvation, in order that the church may be built up and cared for. We believe that spiritual gifts are to build up the church and that the Holy Spirit will never prompt the use of a spiritual gift which is contrary to the Scriptures or to spiritual principles (Romans 12:3-8, 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 Ephesians 4:1-13).
XI. CHRISTIAN HOLINESS: We believe that holiness is a way of life and that which every Christian should strive for. We believe that “without holiness, no man shall see God.” We believe that, by holiness, we are enabled to live a life, so attuned to the will of God and His Word, that we are not bound by the desire to sin. By holiness, we do not mean that one cannot sin or is delivered from the ability to sin (2 Corinthians 7:1, Hebrews 12:14).
XII. ETERNAL LIFE: We believe in eternal life for all. We believe in eternal life in heaven for the believer and eternal damnation for the unsaved (Luke 16:19-31).
XIII. SATAN AND SATANIC ACTIVITY: We believe that Satan is a fallen angel and is the prince of the power of the air; that his constant activity is to captivate the hearts and minds of mankind. We believe that Christians can be oppressed by satanic attacks and that non-Christians can be possessed by him. We believe that Satan is subject to the name and blood of Jesus Christ and his activities can be halted and he can be bound through the name and blood of Jesus Christ (Matthew 10:1, Mark 6:7, Luke 9:1 and Luke).
XIV. GOOD WORKS AND THE CHRISTIAN SOCIAL CONSCIENCE: We believe that every Christian should, not because of the law, but because of his/her love for Jesus, practice good works, seeking every opportunity to help others. Serving the community and the church when possible using the gifts, talents, and time God has given them with all that they are. These activities are for two purposes; to show compassion, even as Christ did; and that they may see our good works and glorify our Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16, Ephesians 2:8-10, 1 Peter 2:12).
